Union County 4th District Commissioner Race
Who is Greg Davis?

May 2006
by Gregory Davis

Let's not talk politics directly here. Let me introduce myself. First and foremost I am a family man. My family is the most important thing to me. Second, is the community and friends surrounding my family.

I have two young daughters and I want to ensure that Union County will provide opportunities for our children to make a living here in Union County. I also have a high respect for my elders, and care deeply for their quality of life, especially my parents of course. This is why I entered the commissioner race—to help shape Union County's future to meet the challenging world.

I do not believe that money solves problems, I believe that people solve problems. We must keep taxes low for our elderly and encourage our youth to become business owners if we are to compete with jobs going to Mexico and India. I have plans to do just this. If we become smarter, we can provide opportunities for our children to make a living here in Union County and not have to leave for other pastures.

I make my living by designing and creating software systems for the motion control robotics industry as well as the nuclear power industry. Occasionally, I also create software for other more varied industries such as the multimedia world.

I sell to clients in Asia, Europe, South America, and North America—all from right here on Hinds Creek. This knowledge is teachable. With changing technology, such as the Internet, we can teach our next generation to work world-wide from right here too.

I am also a professional graphic artist, though I mainly use my graphics skills in my software creations now instead of directly for clients. All of my political cards and such, including this website, I did myself.

Many may remember me when I operated my graphics business on Hinds Creek and later a full print shop located in Halls in the early '90s.

Prior to that I worked as a videographer and director. You may have seen some of my music videos on TNN or my commercials on cable TV.

In the late '90s, a partner and I successfully solicited investors and opened Robotic Control Group in Oak Ridge. As my family was growing, I did not like having to spend so much time away from my home. I sold out my portion of the partnership and began consulting and contracting in robotics and the nuclear fields (which I continue to this day).

I attend Church regularly and am a deacon at Valley Grove. I am heavily involved with my children's activates including coaching in my oldest daughter's sports games. I believe as a parent it is our job to make lasting good memorys for our kids. I also believe it is our responsibility, not the schools, to instill good character in our children.

I have been active in politics for some time now and did not intend to run, but when I saw a need, I stepped up.

I promise that I will fight to make our future, our children's future, and our community's future what it must be to succeed in this changing world. Please help me by giving me your support and vote. Please help me spread the word as well. Our future is not a one-man show; it will take the support and encouragement of many.

Thank You.
