2005 Lincoln Day Dinner
Ten Men Who Speak
April 8, 2005
by Gregory Davis
In April of 2005, I had the honor to speak at Union County's Lincoln Day dinner to inspire the attendees to become involved in the political process. The results were successful. The crowd numbered over 200 and included many guests from surrounding counties. The following is the message I spoke.
Hello, my name is Greg Davis and I’m very excited tonight because this is the first time I have spoke at an event like this. I am very honored to be here.
You know, around the time of our founding fathers, Napoleon almost conquered all of Europe and he had this to say about politics and revolution, “Ten men who speak make more noise than ten thousand sitting in silence.”
This is true today.
“Ten men who speak make more noise than ten thousand sitting in silence.”
I will come back to this statement in a moment, but first I have to say that we take for granted this America that we love.
America has almost ceased to exist many times in our historywe had the Nazis, some of the men who defeated the Nazi are here tonight.
We had the communists, and if we had not kept them in check, we would have surely fought World War III by now.
Now we face another enemy…and I’m not taking about the terrorists either, I’m talking about the socialist and the secularist…or put in plainer words, the liberals and the anti-God crowd!
These people will jointly transform our America as greatly as any foreign enemy could. In the next generation, the America you and I grew up with will have been washed away.
You know history has shown that in the 19th century, Great Britain’s England was at the top of the world. In the 20th century, it was America’s time. Now economists predict that the 21st century is going to end with India and China at the top of the world.
Wow. How can that be? Because we have gotten away from our work ethic and the capitalistic heart that made us the masters of the world. If the socialists are left unchecked, we are going to step down from the podium and the gold medal will go to the likes of China or India!
For most of the last 60 years, the liberals and socialists have had control of Congress, and during that time we have seen taxes rise so high that America’s mothers are forced off to work and can’t stay home to raise their newborns. We’ve seen judges declare the Pledge of Allegiance in our schools illegal. We’ve seen guns blamed for murder, while the true murderer is dubbed a victim of circumstance. Prisons are now for rehabilitation instead for punishment.
Yet, I have seen good moral people who agree with none of that! They don’t agree with gay marriage; they don’t agree with taking God out of our public society, but when that Socialist in Washington says they’ll put five more dollars in your pocket, BAM!!!, they vote for him!
And when they do that, they’re selling out their morals, …and you know what? ...they're selling out your morels too.
The people that support those in government who are destroying our America, they are the problem.
And see folks, that is where you come in. For every person you meet, for every person you gain influence over, you may change themand that‘s one for the good guys. And we are the good guys!
Right now we have soldiers fighting across the sea, so that we do not have to fight the terrorists here. Because we are here, does not mean our duty is any less than that of our soldiers.
By being here tonight, I have drawn my sword and I have joined the battle!….now I ask each and every one of you, to pick up your sword and you enter the war.
I ask that you stand up and defend your country! A famous statesman once said, “The only thing necessary for evil to win is for good men to do nothing.”
For those of you who think you can’t do anything, he added, “Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little.”
So what can you do? Well, none of us know everything about current events, so we can start… by becoming better educated and understanding what is going on around us. That is all it will take. That’s it.
If you are from the 4th district, I want to talk with you. If you are from Union County, I want to talk with you. If you are from another county, I want to talk with you.
Remember what Napoleon said, “Ten people shouting, makes more noise than ten thousand sitting in silence!”
Since this is a Lincoln Day dinner, I want to leave you with some words that Lincoln once said during the middle of war. He said, “The question is not whether God is on our side; the question is, …are we on God’s side?”
Remember, we are at war ...and you have been called.
For if you have not, the country we hand over to our children will either be... in the fading light... of a dying day or it can be, ...in the glorious beam of a new morning.
Which tomorrow will it be?… What will Union County become? What will our neighboring counties become? What will East Tennessee become? What will our America become? …It depends on what we as individuals decide to do today.
Remember my words. It was an honor. Thank you.
